Ladies, if you think chocolate cupcakes with Nutella frosting sound too good to be true, you’re wrong! There is a recipe out there that combines the heavenly taste of chocolate with the magic that is Nutella. If you’re looking to make this recipe, here’s what you will need,
1 box of chocolate cupcake mix*
*You can also make the cupcakes from scratch but the mix will save you time and effort and get you the same great taste! Since the emphasis is on making the Nutella frosting, don’t feel bad for using cupcake mix to speed up the process!
For the frosting you will need:
3/4 cup of Nutella
1 cup of unsalted butter that has been softened at room temperature
2 cups of confectioners sugar
4 tablespoons of heavy cream
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
The first step is to bake the cupcakes according to the instructions on the box. After they have baked, allow them to cook down. While they are cooling begin making the Nutella Butter-cream frosting by using an electric mixer to beat the butter until it is smooth and creamy. It should take about 2 – 3 minutes for it to be at the perfect consistency. Next, add in the two cups of confectionery sugar and continue beating on medium speed. Now it’s finally time to add in the Nutella. Add the 4 tablespoons of heavy cream as well as the 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. If you feel the frosting is too thick to spread easily then add in some more whipping cream. If the frosting feels too thin to you, add in more confectionery sugar. You can taste the mixture to check if all the ingredients are balanced. If you feel the frosting is too sweet, add in about 1/4 of a teaspoon of salt to reduce the sweetness.
Now that the frosting is ready, its time to frost your cupcakes! Spread a heavy layer of frosting on each cupcake. You can garnish them with strawberries, candies, or sprinkles if you’d like but this frosting is delicious on its own as well!
